Guitar Chords

Thursday, March 5, 2009

I'm not sure whether the HS just gently whopped me up the side ofthe head, or I just had a 'duh' moment… The guitar chords used by Hillsong United, R Sanchez & others in the newer songs are played in different finger positions than those we routinely use. I know, 'duh.' I guess I got a clue when I watched a Hillsong video recently (noticing the hand positions of the guitarists), and it did not register with me until today. My other clue came in the form of Em or oneof the worship leaders saying something like, "I don't think they play it like that…" 'Not pointing fingers (except maybe at myself); just stating a fact. In other words, we have to change our vision of what 'C, F, & G' (and other basic chords) look & sound like, if we are to play these new songs (the way the big boys & girls do). I will start working on what those fingerings are and will pass them on in near-future guitar lessons & sessions, also in practice… Maybe we might plan a guitar clinic in the near future… At any rate, it's time to move out of our comfort zone (again). Perhaps D. Eads & Caleb (who are already familiar with more advanced chords) have some insight or ideas as well… In the meantime, it might be good to start watching Hillsong & New Song Café videos on You Tube more often...
Steve
