Book Highlight: The 4:8 Principle

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

"Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy -- meditate on these things" ~Phil. 4:8

Tommy Newberry writes in this book that "The secret conversations you hold in the privacy of your own mind are shaping your destiny little by little". What a sobering thought. We've highlighted "The 4:8 Principle" on the WAPT Blog "Recommended Reading List" because we believe each and every one of you is a person of great purpose and destiny.

I've just started reading this book and I have to be honest and say that I've already been incredibly convicted about my own thought life, but at the same time inspired that it is possible to overcome in my mind. One of the challenges that he puts forth in the book is changing your perspective by asking yourself the "4:8 Questions".

1. What are 5 things that I am thankful for right now?

2. What are 5 of my strengths or positive traits?

3. What are 5 of my best achievements so far?

4. Who are the 5 people who love me the most?

5. What 5 things am I looking forward to in the next 7 days?

They may seem like fairly simple questions, but I'm finding that I have a much more positive outlook on life when I take the time to ask myself these things.

I would whole-heartedly encourage you to ask yourself these same questions and pick up a copy of the book today.
