Power over Sin

Sunday, June 14, 2009

I heard the lyrics of "Stronger" in a new way this morning as I sat in the crowd and wanted to share it with you all.

The chorus says "You are stronger, you are stronger; sin is broken, you have saved me." At first glance, these words probably conjure to mind a salvation experience. But just like the Bible, you can hear the same words over and over and they can mean different things to you each time. And I believe this song should speak to people in different ways.

Personally, I have encountered difficulties recently in relationship with a friend who is in sin. He's doing something he should know is wrong and hasn't been up front about his behavior with anyone who would tell him the truth about it, and our friendship has suffered as a result.

While we were singing the song, I realized that I had lost hope that God could ever redeem my friend and our friendship. I had let his behavior steal my hope--letting someone else's sin have a sort of power over me! So as we sang, I began to let the song build my faith that sin would never have power to dimmune my faith in God's ability to do the miraculous.

So whether you are struggling with sin yourself or whether you are believing God to redeem a friend who is struggling, remember that Christ has broken the power of sin! It has absolutely no power to trap us, tempt us, ensnare us, deflate us or steal our faith.

I'm going to take Pastor Donna's message to heart this week and find at least one scripture to hold onto for my friend and myself--to change my thoughts on the matter.

God is stronger!

Em that is such a great revelation. I've never thought of it that way, but it's so true. There have been so many times where I've lost my hope that God could/would do the miraculous because of sin. I feel like I need to think about this for awhile. This is really a paradigm shift. I'm always amazed when God shows me another area where I've been limiting him in my thinking. He truly is limitless. Thanks for sharing Em!
